Taylor Swift back in time for Super Bowl, Japan embassy assures fans

WASHINGTON (Kyodo) — Taylor Swift will reach Las Vegas in time to see her boyfriend Travis Kelce play in the Super Bowl on Feb. 11 after wrapping up her tour dates in Tokyo, the Japanese embassy in Washington said Friday.

The embassy reassured anxious fans of the American pop star in a statement on X, formerly Twitter, after her presence at the big game became a hot topic when the Kansas City Chiefs won the AFC championship last Sunday.

“The Embassy of Japan in the United States is aware of recent media reports concerning the steps Taylor Swift will need to take to travel from Tokyo after her concert on Feb. 10 to Las Vegas in time to watch the Kansas City Chiefs play in Super Bowl LVIII,” the embassy said in a statement peppered with references to some of the singer’s hits.

“Despite the 12-hour flight and 17-hour time difference, the Embassy can confidently Speak Now to say that if she departs Tokyo in the evening after her concert, she should comfortably arrive in Las Vegas before the Super Bowl begins.”

The Chiefs will take on the San Francisco 49ers in their bid to become the first NFL team to win consecutive Super Bowls since the New England Patriots in 2004 and 2005.

Swift will perform at Tokyo Dome for four days from Wednesday as part of her Eras Tour.

“We know that many people in Japan are excited to experience Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour,” the embassy said. “We wanted to confirm that anyone concerned can be Fearless in knowing that this talented performer can wow Japanese audiences and still make it to Las Vegas to support the Chiefs when they take the field for the Super Bowl wearing Red.”
